Case study 10: Review of submission by former colleague

Dr Adisa has been a member of the REC for a number of years. He is highly experienced and admired by his peers. During one of the meetings where proposals were submitted for review,

Dr Adisa realised he is familiar with one of the submissions. His former collaborator and friend has submitted a proposal for review. He vaguely remembers several discussions between himself and the applicant.

Dr Adisa disclosed his conflict of interest; however, during the meeting, he continues to sit through the discussions and his fellow REC members rely on him for guidance as he is a respected academic.
